  • The F-24 features a high-wing configuration that provides excellent visibility and stability—characteristics that made it a favorite with pilots.

The aircraft was available in several different variants, differing primarily in cabin configuration and their engine type (which included both inline and radial models). The aircraft’s robust construction and reliable performance made it a popular choice for a wide range of aviation needs.

One of the defining features of the F-24 was its adaptability to various roles beyond private and business aviation. During World War II, the aircraft was requisitioned by the United States Army Air Forces and other Allied forces under different designations such as the UC-61.

In military service the type served primarily in light transport, communication, and training roles. Its ease of operation and maintenance, along with the ability to operate from short and unimproved airstrips, made it highly valued for military utility and liaison work throughout the war.

This F-24C-8-C’s first owner was the US Dept of Commerce, and until 2009 when the aircraft was sold and imported into New Zealand it appears to have only had a one other owner. An extensive eight year project saw the aircraft restored to an almost new condition, with its first New Zealand flight being recorded in 2019.
